Actor Kang Myung-joo has suddenly passed away, and tributes continue from not only online users but also the entertainment industry.
According to the theater community on the 28th, it was reported that actress Kang Myung-joo passed away on the 27th after battling cancer. She was 54 years old.
Debuting in 1992 with the play "Kuni, Nara" at the Experimental Theater Company, Kang Myung-joo later appeared in many plays including "Hamlet in the Year 2000," "Blood and CIAAT," "20th Century Blues," and "Bea."
Among her works, the one that left a deep impression on online users was "Extraordinary Attorney Woo." Kang Myung-joo, who played a judge in the drama, appeared briefly but left a charismatic presence.
It is particularly noted that she did not give up her passion for acting even during her treatment, and she performed until recently in "Sweat," "Bea," and "20th Century Blues."
The deceased's daughter, who is also an actress, Park Se-young, said through her social media, "My mom left for a long journey yesterday afternoon. Thank you for remembering the stage and shining moments my mother loved."
Actor Nam Myung-ryeol also expressed his condolences on the same day through social media. He said, "It is so unfortunate because she passed away at a young age in her 50s. I first met actress Myung-joo in 1995 during 'Journey with Oedipus.' She was truly a beautiful actress. Especially, her beauty shone brighter on stage."
He continued, "After some time, I heard the news that Myung-joo had developed cancer and was undergoing treatment. This was around the time I heard that actress Lee Yeon-kyu, who performed with me in 'Burned Love,' was seriously ill with cancer. A little later, actress Yeon-kyu could not overcome the attack of cancer and went to heaven."
Nam Myung-ryeol said, "I was worried about Myung-joo, but contrary to my concern, she consistently stood on stage. I thought she, unlike Yeon-kyu, would bravely overcome cancer and continue to perform, but after receiving the news of her passing, I am utterly shocked. I remember actress Kang Myung-joo as a person of truth and purity. I sincerely pray for her rest. I offer my deepest condolences to the remaining family members."
Meanwhile, the deceased's funeral hall has been arranged in room 11 of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. The funeral will be held at 7:40 a.m. on March 2nd, with the first burial site at Seoul Memorial Park and the second at Yongin Catholic Park Cemetery.
