Edward Lee, Byun Yo-han, Go Ah-sung, and Cynthia warmly concluded their trip to Gangwon Province.
On yesterday's (Feb. 28) broadcast of tvN's 'Edward Lee's Country Cook' (directed by Kim Kwan-tae), the Country team not only engaged in herb cooking but also enjoyed their first cooking class with senior citizens, deep-sea fishing, and created unforgettable memories in Gangwon Province.
First, the Country team prepared breakfast with a herb master, introducing tadpole noodles and various herbs. They had a unique experience grinding meok corn with a mill and pressing the dough into the mold to make tadpole noodles, as well as learning how to mix herbs and make gondre rice. Edward Lee, who discovered the true taste of herbs starting with his favorite herb dish, herb salad, showed an enamored expression saying, "I could eat just herbs every day without meat."
Especially, the first cooking class of the Country team was held for the village seniors who wanted to learn Western cooking, heightening their interest. Byun Yo-han interpreted Edward Lee's English explanations, diligently cleaning up and complimenting, while Go Ah-sung and Cynthia kindly assisted the seniors with their cooking, drawing attention.
Edward Lee, who led the class passionately, tasted the gnocchi made by the seniors and praised them, wrapping up the first cooking class pleasantly. He also mentioned seniors who had never made gnocchi before but understood the art of cooking, recalling, "They do it in their unique ways. So, although each one was completed a bit differently, they tasted the food and were very pleased, saying it was delicious."
At Gangneung Port, which is hot for winter cod fishing, a fishing competition with the Country team was held for Edward Lee's special recipe, providing enjoyment. Following Go Ah-sung, Edward Lee and Byun Yo-han also caught cod, and Edward Lee, who caught the biggest cod, won and preserved his special recipe.
Most importantly, Edward Lee prepared steak for the tired members for dinner, using a sauce made by grinding pickled garlic and adding soy sauce, hitting the members' taste buds. The delicious combination of steak with onion garnish and pickled garlic sauce captivated Byun Yo-han, Go Ah-sung, and Cynthia's genuine reactions. Byun Yo-han expressed, "All the fatigue of the day is relieved. Thank you," and Edward Lee mentioned the necessity of a secret ingredient that will add a kick to cooking, like the pickled garlic sauce.
Go Ah-sung recalled adding radish kimchi broth to ramen, cooking young radish kimchi ramen, while Cynthia remembered eating squid ramen looking at the sea in Goseong, preparing squid roe garlic ramen with the white broth. Byun Yo-han also showcased his cooking skills by helping the two.
Through the journey in Gangwon Province, Edward Lee began learning the art of cooking and various rural dishes, saying, "What's really important is the conversations I have with everyone I meet (about food). How it's made, what it means, what the taste is. I gather pieces of advice and wisdom and store them in my mind. So, I hope that by the end of this journey, I will know better what the true taste of cooking is."
The new episode of the Country team, which will unfold in Andong, can be seen on the upcoming 7th (Friday) at 8:40 p.m. on tvN's 'Edward Lee's Country Cook.'
