Legendary actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Bessy Arakawa, 64, were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on the 26th (local time).

According to a report by the Daily Mail on the 27th, one of their three dogs was found dead inside the house, while the other two were rescued alive.

Leslie Ann Hackman, one of Hackman's three children, said to the Daily Mail that "the couple's death remains a mystery, and the family is waiting for answers from law enforcement about the cause of death.

However, the children suspect that their father, stepmother, and one of their dogs may have died from inhaling toxic gas due to a carbon monoxide leak.

Leslie said, "There were no signs of trouble before my father's death," adding, "Despite his age, my father was in very good physical condition. He had not undergone major surgery in the past few months. My father loved Pilates and yoga and exercised several times a week. So he was healthy."

However, Gene Hackman was somewhat reclusive. He made a public appearance with his wife at the 2003 Golden Globe Awards when he received the Cecil B. deMille Award, marking his return after 21 years.

In a 2020 interview with Empire, he mentioned enjoying watching DVDs at home after his retirement. The family said that the police do not know exactly what happened or when the couple died. According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, the couple's bodies had been in the house for at least a day. An arrest warrant obtained by the Daily Mail indicates that both bodies showed signs of decomposition.

Hackman granted roles in films such as 'Superman', 'Bonnie and Clyde', 'The French Connection', 'The Royal Tenenbaums', and 'Unforgiven.' He received Academy Awards for 'The French Connection' and 'Unforgiven.'
