The drama "The History of a Loser" has unveiled its story after many twists and turns.

On the 26th (Wed), the Wavve-Watcha drama "The History of a Loser" (written by Kim Poong/directed by Kim Sung-hoon/produced by HB Entertainment) was first revealed. It is a coming-of-age romantic comedy drama depicting the growth of four twenty-year-old boys through love and separation. The original author Kim Poong, who had previously written the hugely popular webtoon "The History of a Loser," created a buzz by also writing the drama.

In episodes 1 and 2 of "The History of a Loser," the lives of four young men who have just turned twenty in 2000 are depicted, showcasing the awkward and cheesy love and romance stories. Min-ki Seo (Jo Byeong-kyu), who has just become a college student, along with his classmates from the Korean literature department, Jun-seok Noh (Ryeo Woon), Ki-hyuk Kwon (Jeong Jae-gwang), and Gwang-jae Lee (Jeong Yong-joo), experience a tumultuous diary of youth. While enjoying the freedom of being a naive freshman absorbed in playing games with friends every day, Min-ki Seo accidentally falls in love at first sight with the pretty and easygoing Seol-ha Kwon (Bang Min-ah). Despite receiving intense attention from other male students, the beautiful Seol-ha Kwon shows familiarity towards Min-ki Seo, and he begins to develop feelings for her, who is straightforward and lively, in contrast to his thoughtful and cautious nature.

When Min-ki Seo shared that he had shared a meal and subtle physical contact over vending machine coffee with Seol-ha Kwon, his friends urged him, asking, "Aren't you dating?" Although Min-ki Seo denied his feelings, he felt anxious due to the seniors showing interest in Seol-ha at the freshman welcome party. However, as Seol-ha shared her straw from the tumbler he was using and put her arm around his shoulders, he excitedly expressed, "I felt a sense of anticipation that my very first romance would unfold with my friends cheering me on."

When senior Jae-seon (Choi Hee-seung) confessed that he liked Seol-ha Kwon, Min-ki Seo was engulfed in shock and agony but was thrilled when Seol-ha invited him to an exhibition. His friends supported his first date by giving him restaurant gift cards, the latest clothes and shoes, and a map of Daehak-ro, but Min-ki Seo got into trouble after losing the restaurant gift card. Instead, he embarrassed himself by offering to pay Seol-ha back for the cola she paid for. Following this, Min-ki Seo, who joined Jae-seon's plan to keep an eye on senior Sim-geon (Yoo Hwan), found himself alone with Seol-ha watching a band performance. Gripping her hand tightly, he joyfully enjoyed the performance as Seol-ha said, "You mustn't let go of my hand."

Min-ki Seo, who spent the night happily glancing at his hand, mustered the courage to confess via text that he was sure Seol-ha liked him. However, when he didn’t receive a response for 8 hours, he spent the night awake, shocked when Seol-ha's text finally arrived. Meanwhile, Ki-hyuk Kwon encountered senior Choi Hee-seon (Hwang Bo-reum-byeol) continuously while working at a convenience store during the day and delivering newspapers at dawn. He created a subtle atmosphere by catching Choi Hee-seon’s waist just before she almost fell, raising curiosity about their future relationship.

In episodes 1 and 2 of "The History of a Loser," the webtoon author Kim Poong's remarkable writing captures the immersion of the cheesy and awkward love and romance stories experienced by four young people in their twenties in the 2000s. Kim Poong artfully depicted the struggles of naive and inexperienced love, the human nature of making mistakes and reflecting yet still facing failure, and the gradual growth of youth through delicate emotional portrayal. Director Kim Sung-hoon maximized realism by creating a sensory representation of the 2000s backdrop of "The History of a Loser" through realistic props, various visual effects, and overall color schemes. The freshness of college campuses and the details that vividly portrayed that era provided visual appeal and naturally captured the subtle psychology of awkward youth, enhancing empathy.

Meanwhile, Jo Byeong-kyu, Ryeo Woon, Jeong Jae-gwang, Jeong Yong-joo, and Bang Min-ah vividly portrayed the immature youths who wander and ponder over love and romance. Jo Byeong-kyu realistically depicted the character of Min-ki Seo, who, while being contemplative and hesitant, also triggers awkward mistakes and clumsiness with bold actions. Ryeo Woon completed the character of Jun-seok Noh, whose emotions are stable and unremarkable, with a compelling presence that is cool yet enigmatic. Jeong Jae-gwang immersed himself completely into his character, Ki-hyuk Kwon, who does his best every day while juggling various part-time jobs. Jeong Yong-joo humorously portrayed the outgoing and amiable Gwang-jae Lee, who has a slightly dull side due to his friendly nature. Bang Min-ah brought vitality to the performance as Seol-ha Kwon, whose charming personality is characterized by her beautiful appearance and casual demeanor. The synergy of the actors who expressed imperfect yet refreshing youth captivated audiences.

The drama "The History of a Loser" is produced by HB Entertainment, known for many hit productions including "SKY Castle," "My Love from the Star," “Lawyers in Love 1 and 2,” "Upper Class," "Yong Pal," and "365: One Year Against Fate." It is released bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. on Wavve and Watcha.
