The host of 'TV Show Genuine Goods,' announcer Kang Seung-hwa, shared her thoughts as the program celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Kang Seung-hwa participated in the recording of KBS1's 'TV Show Genuine Goods' (hereafter referred to as Genuine Goods) held on the 27th at KBS in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul.
Kang Seung-hwa, who joined KBS as part of the 39th group of announcers, has been responsible for viewers' Sunday mornings as the host of 'Genuine Goods' since 2019. After finishing the 30th anniversary recording, Kang said to OSEN, "I think I tried to put more power into my voice and do better since it was the 30th anniversary broadcast. I usually don't lose my voice easily, but today, my junior announcer Hong Joo-yeon was also present, and since it is the 30th anniversary, I wanted to introduce the items with more care. I worked hard enough to strain my body."
From the 30th anniversary broadcast, Kang Seung-hwa will team up with Hong Joo-yeon, who joined as 'Genuine Lady.' As the first pair of hosts in 'Genuine Goods' history, what was their chemistry like? Kang said, "I saw tremendous potential. Since 'Genuine Goods' is a program focused on objects, it can easily become heavy or lose focus. Therefore, we needed a way to shift the atmosphere and approach the viewers in a friendly manner, and Hong Joo-yeon was so good at setting the concept as 'Genuine Lady' that I feel it will go even better in the future," and added, "In the first recording, there wasn't much cross talk, but I think there will be some chemistry as we tease each other. So, I believe it will become very entertaining in the future."
Kang Seung-hwa provided a lot of help for Hong Joo-yeon to blend into 'Genuine Goods.' Hong said, "She knew I was really worried and told me, 'There's no need for that.' She helped me with details on setting up the concept, saying that it's okay to be 'brazen and aloof,' and when I get anxious and speak faster, she'd encourage me to take it slow. I received a lot of help in those areas."
Kang Seung-hwa's hosting was smooth. She showed high tension and became serious without crossing the line with the guests. Kang said, "A culture program needs to be serious when it's serious, and if it's too serious, even the best content can be overlooked. So I always contemplate how to convey things in a way that's not light, yet enjoyable. 'Genuine Goods' was particularly challenging. Programs like 'Live Information' and 'Neighbor Charles' are almost close to variety shows, but viewers of 'Genuine Goods' might think it's disrespectful if we cross the line regarding the items, which led to a lot of initial concerns. So I was careful with my word choices and when talking with the celebrity panelists, I try to prompt good answers while having fun without just teasing them."
As she hosts several long-running KBS shows, Kang Seung-hwa is emerging as a leading announcer. She noted, "I'm always grateful. I thought that viewers might not know me well, but surprisingly, many recognize me. Every time someone says they enjoy watching, I feel the pressure to do really well. After several years of hosting, I think I became too comfortable and didn't realize the value, but every time viewers say, 'We're enjoying it,' it reminds me to stay sharp and work hard. I will continue to recognize that viewers are always watching and strive to repay them with good broadcasting."
Meanwhile, as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, 'Genuine Goods' will air every Sunday at 10:55 a.m.
