The group ILLIT's debut song 'Magnetic' has added another significant record in Japan.
According to the Japan Record Association announcement on the 27th, ILLIT (Yoona, Minjoo, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha)'s mini album 'SUPER REAL ME' title track 'Magnetic' surpassed 200 million cumulative streams as of January, earning 'Double Platinum' certification in the streaming institutional sector. This was achieved just 10 months after the song's release, marking the shortest period for a female group song to reach this streaming milestone, including local artists.
'Magnetic' received 'Platinum' (1 million cumulative streams) certification just three months after its release. This was also the shortest period among female group songs historically. Subsequently, the song added another 100 million streams in seven months, proving its hot popularity by receiving 'Double Platinum' certification.
With 'Magnetic,' ILLIT continued its record streak on various charts in Japan last year. The song ranked highest among foreign artist songs on the Billboard Japan 'Hot 100' and in the NTV 'Annual Music Awards,' and was the only K-pop song selected at the 'Line Music Trend Awards 2024.' Based on these achievements, ILLIT won the Rookie Award at the '66th Japan Record Awards,' the first time in 13 years for a K-pop girl group.
ILLIT's first original track in Japan, 'Almond Chocolate,' announced on the 14th, is also receiving a positive response from local fans. The song topped the AWA Music real-time rising chart and the Spotify Japan daily rising chart upon its release. It is unusual for a K-pop girl group that has not yet released an official album in Japan to be chosen as the performer for a local movie's theme song, and for a pre-release single to achieve such success before the movie's debut.
