Um Hye-rim from 'The Return of Superman' confessed that she experienced postpartum depression after giving birth to her first child.
On the 26th, KBS2's entertainment program 'The Return of Superman' (hereafter referred to as 'Superman Is Back') was themed 'Every day with you is good,' featuring the daily life of the family of Hye-rim and Shin Min-cheol.
As Shin Min-cheol went out on a date with his first son, Si-woo, his mother visited from Hong Kong. She asked, 'How are you feeling?' and Hye-rim replied, 'I think my recovery from this second child is faster. Wasn't it really hard during Si-woo's time? Even after surgery, it was difficult to sit and stand.'
Then her mother expressed concern, saying, 'Didn't you cry during your second child? You cried every day after giving birth to your first.' To this, Hye-rim confessed, 'I felt a little bit of it after Si-woo was born. Even when I was just sitting still, tears would come,' indicating that she experienced postpartum depression. Ahn Young-mi also expressed sympathy, saying, 'It feels like my emotional button is broken. I wondered why I was crying now. I even cried while nursing.'
Um Hye-rim shared, 'I first realized how terrifying hormones can be. When Si-woo was born, it was during COVID-19. I was alone in the maternity ward without my husband. But since my mom was really worried, I think I couldn't cry freely.'
Her mother empathized, saying, 'Suddenly, it might not even feel like your life anymore, and you might wonder if you're the one who gave birth to the baby.' Hye-rim replied, 'Since it's the first time, I planned for it, but when it became a reality, I wondered what this was. It changes overnight.' She added, 'My mom worried the most.' Fortunately, Hye-rim reassured her mother that she feels more relaxed with the second child.
