Koo Jun-yeob of the group Clon has not yet emerged from the wounds and sorrow of losing his late wife, Seo Hee-won, but several issues such as inheritance and residents' protests regarding her remains are surrounding him, evoking sympathy.
Seo Hee-won passed away at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan, on the 2nd. He left for Japan with his family for a trip on the 29th of last month and was transferred to the emergency room on the third day of the trip but ultimately could not recover. Known to have had symptoms of influenza and asthma, he is reported to have died from pneumonia caused by the flu.
Koo Jun-yeob and other family members returned to Taiwan on the 5th after conducting some funeral procedures, including cremation, in Japan. The shock was greater as they were approaching their third wedding anniversary, and the family held a farewell party to commemorate the deceased. Amid a sad atmosphere, the family members drank champagne and ate fruit to honor the deceased. His younger brother, Seo Hee-je, appeared to have lost a lot of weight, and Koo Jun-yeob also stood weakly guarding Seo Hee-won's urn with a gaunt face.
Seo Hee-won's funeral was scheduled to be a tree burial but has been postponed. Local media reported, "It was known that it would be held this week, but the date has been postponed. Koo Jun-yeob wished for an independent space where he could visit Seo Hee-won anytime in the future, and after discussing with the family, they decided to choose a new funeral location."
As Seo Hee-won's urn is still being kept at home, complaints from neighbors continue. The family is reportedly considering abandoning the tree burial and looking for a monument or burial site.
Amid ongoing disputes over inheritance, the details have yet to be determined. Seo Hee-won is reported to have left an inheritance of 120 billion won. Some have claimed that since Seo Hee-won and Koo Jun-yeob did not report their marriage in Taiwan, the inheritance and custody rights could be taken away, but this has been confirmed as false. Koo Jun-yeob stated, "All of that inheritance was accumulated with the sweat and tears of Hee-won to protect her beloved family, so I intend to give all my rights to my mother-in-law. I will take legal measures to ensure that the children's rights are protected through a lawyer until they become adults so that bad people cannot interfere."
Local media have focused on Seo Hee-won's ex-husband, Wang Su-bi. It is known that Seo Hee-won's ex-husband Wang Xiao-pei and his mother-in-law Zhang Ran were in debt of about 200 billion won and established a trust in Taiwan under a relative's name to hide and launder funds. With concerns that the children's custody could automatically transfer to Wang Xiao-pei and the inheritance as well upon Seo Hee-won's death, there are calls for Koo Jun-yeob to take a more active role.
Local lawyers noted, "There is no disagreement that Seo Hee-won's inheritance should go to Koo Jun-yeob and their two children. He is the sole custodian and legal guardian of Seo Hee-won's two children. However, according to the law after Seo Hee-won's death, the legal representative is Wang Su-bi. If Seo Hee-won's mother wants to fight for the rights of the two children, she must apply to the court to suspend Wang Su-bi's custody until the children become adults, based on his actions and circumstances," adding, "Since Wang Su-bi is the legal representative for the two children, it is doubtful whether Seo Hee-won's inheritance can reach an agreement. Currently, there is a high likelihood of no hope for negotiation, and the inheritance dispute can be resolved through the courts in the future."
Recently, famous manager Jin Hyo-ji in Taiwan publicly revealed a voice file of Seo Hee-won, claiming that Wang Su-bi owes Seo Hee-won at least 10 billion won. He stated, "Wang Su-bi bought a luxury mansion in Seo Hee-won's name. Coming from mainland China, Wang Su-bi had a low loan limit. The total loan amount is 350 million Taiwan dollars (approximately 15.3 billion won). The monthly loan payment reached 1 million Taiwan dollars (approximately 197 million won), but Wang Su-bi did not repay it, so Seo Hee-won covered it." Moreover, he claimed that Wang Su-bi's business was not going well, and in addition to the loan amount, he borrowed about 250 million Taiwan dollars (approximately 10.9 billion won) from Seo Hee-won but did not repay it.
Meanwhile, Koo Jun-yeob has indefinitely suspended his activities following Seo Hee-won's death. According to local media, Koo Jun-yeob canceled a flash mob event scheduled for February and a beauty clinic opening event planned for March in Taiwan. Koo Jun-yeob is currently staying in Taipei and is reportedly going through related legal procedures for Seo Hee-won's posthumous matters, stating, "The time I spent with Hee-won was a precious and invaluable gift that I could not exchange for anything in the world. I believe that protecting the family that Hee-won loved the most is the last thing I can do."
