The group Weekly has terminated its exclusive contract with IST Entertainment and is taking steps toward disbandment after five years since its debut.
IST Entertainment stated on the 26th, "After a long discussion regarding future activities with the members, we have agreed to mutually respect each other's opinions and end the exclusive contract."
They continued, "We sincerely thank the members who have been with us as part of the artist family and the fans who have shared in our brilliant and warm journey together, and we ask for your continued love and encouragement for the Weekly members, who will continue to be active in various fields."
Debuting in 2020, Weekly gained attention by winning six rookie awards at the very beginning, capturing love with their free-spirited, energetic, and positive charm.
However, upon announcing their disbandment before completing five years since debut, fans were left in shock. The members also expressed their sorrow and conveyed their greetings to the fans.
Jimin noted through the official fan community Weverse on that day, "As someone who loved Weekly as much as Daily, I felt like I spent quite a while in painful days regarding this news. I didn't want to keep you waiting anymore and wanted to make up for that waiting with better news, but I'm truly sorry for hurting you with such news."
Jaehyuk mentioned, "It feels strange and upsetting to see a team filled with such love being associated with the word disbandment. I don't think this is the eternal end. We may follow our paths for now, but I believe and hope that we can meet again someday in the future."
Sujin expressed, "Initially, I was very surprised and my heart was quite complicated, but I felt the greatest sense of guilt towards Daily, thinking what should I do. I will do my best to repay Daily in new places."
Jihan also stated, "I hope this message doesn't bring greater sadness to the Dailies who must have been shocked by hearing unprepared news. I wanted to only give happiness to the Dailies, and I'm so sorry. No matter what, I will do my utmost to ensure we can meet again, and if hard times come to me, I will continue to move forward by thinking of the memories with the Dailies."
Finally, Soeun said, "There were many times over the five years when we struggled, rejoiced, and cried, but we were able to successfully carry on because of the Dailies, our members, and our families. I will never forget those precious times we had together through several springs, summers, autumns, and winters."
