In the program 'Ask Anything,' a remarried couple shared their concerns while Seong Jang-hoon offered practical advice.
In the episode aired on the 24th, the remarried couple grants appeared on KBS Joy's 'Ask Anything.'
On that day, the remarried couple appeared, stating that each of their former spouses became single due to poor choices. The former wife and former husband made extreme choices. The woman said, "We are raising five children, one daughter and four sons, it's really tough." They were a couple raising five children: the wife's eldest daughter, a high school senior, and the husband's three sons—one in high school, one in middle school, and another in sixth grade—along with a six-year-old son they had together from their remarriage.
However, the woman shared that she has been going through difficult times after being recently diagnosed with uterine cancer and thyroid cancer. She noted, "My teenage son spits on my face and refuses to go to school," adding, "Even if the children know about the uterine cancer diagnosis, there's no room for improvement."
The children are aware of their mother's condition, but once the dual-income couple returns home, they are faced with mountains of chores from entering the house to washing dishes and doing laundry. The woman also expressed concern, saying, "If I discipline the children for being messy, as their stepmother, I worry they might get hurt," stating that her disciplinary dilemmas have led to arguments with her husband. In response, Seong Jang-hoon firmly suggested, "If you can't discipline properly, it can lead to getting out of hand in an instant."
The woman stated, "My husband struggles with discipline and has even called his ex-wife," adding, "However, we get along well, so I asked him to surprise the kids by starting with a drinking session twice a week and bringing them to see their biological mother." Seong Jang-hoon pointed out, "Isn't that bragging about how well we are doing? That is the most incorrect behavior," questioning, "What might the husband be thinking?" As expected, her husband replied, "It was tough." Seong Jang-hoon lamented, "Even though it happened in the past, it shows a lack of consideration for the husband, and the children are in a confusing situation that they cannot understand."
Seong Jang-hoon continued, saying, "I do not say to the children to think of their stepmother as their biological mother," asserting, "It does not work just because you tell them to." He emphasized that, "The most important thing is that the mother has already overcome cancer twice, and if you don't help her, she's not really a person, and if you act selfishly, you are not a true human being," and concluded with, "You discipline them, if this continues, life will be repetitive; change your mindset."
