In 'Lover of Joseon,' Chae Rina recalled the horrific stabbing incident in Gangnam from 10 years ago and shared the reason why she could not hold a wedding ceremony.
In the TV Chosun entertainment program 'Lover of Joseon' aired on the 24th, Chae Rina appeared with her husband Park Yong-geun.
The couple, now approaching their 10th wedding anniversary, is six years apart in age. However, they said they could not have a wedding ceremony. Naturally, they shared the unfortunate story that became the starting point of their romance.
Chae Rina said, "While spending time as siblings with Yong-geun, we experienced a major accident," adding, "During the time I was praying, 'Please save this person,' I truly survived; it was a bond formed that way, but because there was a victim, I didn't want to make a fuss and have a wedding."
She reminisced about that time when they were caught up in the 'Gangnam stabbing incident.' In October 2012, singer Chae Rina and former baseball player Park Yong-geun were at a bar in Gangnam, Seoul, with acquaintances when they got into a confrontation with a drunken man. The drunken man swung a knife, declaring it was 'too noisy,' and Park Yong-geun suffered a severe condition after losing 44% of his liver. Notably, the ex-wife of Cool's Kim Sung-soo, who introduced Chae Rina and Park Yong-geun, was also at the scene. Unfortunately, the stabbing resulted in a death, causing shock.
Chae Rina carefully began, "When Yong-geun was taken by ambulance to the hospital (before surgery), the diagnosis was 99% fatal." Park Yong-geun added, "It was such a big accident; everyone involved was in difficulty." Chae Rina remarked, "Just being in the area caused a lot of harm, and I felt affection during that time as a sister, and if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have been there, so I felt regret and guilt on my part."
Then Chae Rina recalled, "Fortunately, after the surgery went well, he confessed at the time of his discharge," reflecting on the beginning of their romance. Chae Rina expressed, "At that time, I wanted to protect him. My feelings grew deeper through our relationship." Kim Ji-min resonated with this sentiment, saying, "There's nothing more thankful than being there for someone when they are in pain."
However, the two had no choice but to quietly nurture their love. The reason why the Chae Rina and Park Yong-geun couple did not hold a wedding ceremony is that while Yong-geun survived thanks to the successful surgery, there was a victim who passed away. Chae Rina noted, "Even though I was a victim, I survived 'thankfully' in the midst of misfortune, so we thought, since there are other victims who carry pain, let's live quietly and not stand out. For someone, it may be an unwanted memory, and I was afraid of reminding them..." she explained why they could not hold a wedding ceremony at that time.
Chae Rina said, "When people around me asked why we didn't have a wedding ceremony, I made excuses saying I didn't want to do it extravagantly anywhere." However, now that it's our 10th anniversary, I want to try to hold the wedding ceremony we never had, even if it's just a modest one, I want to have a wedding ceremony that we can fulfill together, a wedding ceremony that we didn't have 10 years ago."
