Gong Hyo-jin shared her thoughts on the conclusion of 'Ask the Stars.' Her comments seemed to reflect awareness of its failure at the box office and harsh reviews.
On the 24th, Gong Hyo-jin's agency Management Soop's official account stated, "This is a station. I will read Commander Eve Kim's final letter," and shared Gong Hyo-jin's thoughts on the conclusion.
Gong Hyo-jin said, "After a long filming period and post-production, I feel that simply having 'Ask the Stars' released to the world has fulfilled all my wishes." She added, "As an actress, I was drawn to the charm of this new story, and I hope viewers enjoyed following along, just as I did, and that they experienced the diversity of the drama genre in Korea."
She continued, "I sincerely thank the viewers who loved the 'Ask the Stars,' which is both unfamiliar and honest," expressing her gratitude. Her agency noted, "Actor Hyo-jin played a leading role in tvN's 'Ask the Stars' #EveKim goodbye~" along with behind-the-scenes photos.
The released photos include Gong Hyo-jin holding the drama script and moments of her performing as Eve Kim on set. It also includes a scene of her having a simple wrap party with the staff after finishing all filming.
'Ask the Stars' is the first drama in the country to deal with a space station, featuring a budget of 50 billion won. Starring top actors Gong Hyo-jin and Lee Min-ho as the main characters, it garnered significant attention even before its broadcast. However, it received repeated criticism for lack of accuracy regarding space and faced challenges with its weak storyline and characters' romantic antics, resulting in ratings lingering between 1% and 2% throughout its airing. Even though it aired in the tvN drama time slot, its performance was truly dismal.
Most notably, in the final episode aired on the 23rd, Eve Kim (played by Gong Hyo-jin) shockingly died after giving birth in space without properly treating her pelvic injury. The father of the child, Dinosaur (played by Lee Min-ho), remained on the space station to protect his young daughter but eventually returned to Earth, suffering aftereffects that left him blind and unable to use his legs.
Until the end, many viewers expressed their anger and dissatisfaction by mentioning the conclusion, and the show closed with a disappointing rating of 2.6%.
