Trot singer Shin Sung revealed the backstory behind his name.
On the broadcast of Channel A's "Best Friends Documentary – 4-Person Dining Table" on the 24th, comedian Jeong Kyung-mi grants her best friends a visit.
Shin Sung noted that work is currently more enjoyable than dating and reminisced about his early days.
He mentioned, "In my 20s, I worked various jobs. I tried both 2-shift and 3-shift factory work and also held an office position. I even took care of plants" and explained that he had various jobs before achieving success as a singer.
Shin Sung said, "I did it with a friend I met in a band during high school. He suggested we try being singers. There was a program for ordinary people to sing, and only three teams were selected. We got picked and made it on air. The writer was impressed and called us again. I was lucky. We thought, 'Finally, we made it,' but after that, nothing happened. I participated in singing contests while working a job. I won the grand prize at a singing contest in 2012."
When asked if his original name was 'Shin Sung,' he replied, "Originally, it was Shin Dong-gon. I worked for eight years. The MCs kept telling me to change my name. I think I visited about 10 fortune tellers. My mother spent around 4 million won at that time. I didn't like any of the names. (Among the candidates) there was Taeguk as well as Nile River. They said it should sound country, and I didn't like it because it didn't match my image. My mother was at her wit's end."
Shin Sung shared the backstory behind his name, stating, "At the last place, they charged only 200,000 won to name me."
