He also urged the Academy to award Robert Pattinson both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for delivering a dual role in the film.
Director Choi Dong-hoon, known for 'Tazza,' 'The Thieves,' and 'Assassination,' remarked, "A movie that makes people happy and provides comfort," while director Jang Jae-hyun of 'Phantom' stated, "Cute, cruel, beautiful, and incredibly funny," expressing great satisfaction.
Director Yoon Ga-eun of 'Our Home' said, "The joy of watching a movie (while not dead)," director Nam Dong-hyup of 'Handsome Guys' remarked, "It's a movie that makes you want to be Bong Joon-ho 17!!!" Director Hong Ui-jung of 'Silently' expressed, "An incredibly wonderful experience," director Lim Pil-seong of 'Madame Ppungdeok' noted, "Mickey is 17th. Bong Joon-ho is the only one," and director Yoo Jae-sun of 'Sleep' stated, "The best movie of the year! Watch it two, three, four times without any information," while director Lee Yong-joo of 'Architecture 101' praised, "An elegantly compiled work of Bong's lovely humor and sharp perspective in 'Mickey 17.'
Meanwhile, Bong Joon-ho's comeback film 'Mickey 17' (written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, produced by Plan B Entertainment, distributed by Warner Bros. Korea Co., Ltd.) depicts the unpredictable story of Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), a disposable (expendable) being sent into dangerous missions, who experiences the crisis of his 17th death as Mickey 18 (also played by Robert Pattinson) is printed, believing Mickey has died. Based on the sci-fi novel 'Mickey 7' by American author Edward Ashton, Bong Joon-ho adapted the screenplay himself and directed it. It is his first new film in six years since winning the Cannes Palme d'Or and four Academy Awards for 'Parasite' and serves as the third overseas project following 'Okja' and 'Snowpiercer.'
Robert Pattinson played the role of Mickey Bansur, who flees to the ice planet Niflheim after being unable to withstand threats from loan sharks. Trusting only his friend's words, he ambitiously starts a macaroon shop while borrowing money, but ends up failing miserably, accumulating substantial debt, and becomes a failure on Earth. He escapes to Niflheim to evade the loan sharks but ends up repeatedly facing a horrific death as he is involved in 'human printing.'
According to the integrated ticketing system for movie theaters at 5 p.m. on the day, 'Mickey 17' exceeded a real-time reservation rate of 51.3%, with ticket reservations totaling 147,415. It achieved an overwhelming first place, raising expectations for its box office performance.
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' will premiere in Korea, the first country worldwide, on the 28th.
