Jeong Ji-seon bursts into tears during the recording. In response, Jeon Hyun-moo expresses sympathy, saying, "This is the first time I've seen Jeong Ji-seon cry."
KBS 2TV's "Boss's ears are like donkey's ears" (directed by Ahn Sang-eun, hereafter referred to as 'Boss's ears') is a self-reflective program for South Korean bosses aiming to create a fulfilling workplace. The last episode recorded the highest viewership rating of 7.4%, maintaining the number one spot in entertainment for 142 consecutive weeks in the same time slot. (as per Nielsen Korea)
On the broadcast of 'Boss's ears' today (23rd), Jeong Ji-seon touches the hearts of viewers as she bursts into tears while discussing female owner chefs who are gradually starting to gain recognition in a culture dominated by male owner chefs.
When Chef Kim Hee-eun introduces other female owner chefs of the same age, Jeong Ji-seon reveals, "I'm so envious of that" and then shares, "Even after studying abroad, I couldn't find a job. The Chinese cuisine field was mostly male chefs." She recounts her past, stating, "After getting employed, I came to work two hours early. I was hit with a ladle in the kitchen, and I don’t know how many times I got bumped with a Chinese kitchen knife."
Continuing, Jeong Ji-seon shares, "When 'T&Mimi' first opened, I intentionally didn’t mention that I was a female owner chef because of discrimination and territoriality from my male Chinese cuisine seniors," as she cries. Remembering that time, she gets emotional and says, "Some seniors even said, 'Let’s see how well you do then.'"
In response, Jeon Hyun-moo expresses surprise, saying, "This is the first time I've seen Jeong Ji-seon cry" and comforts her by stating that "They might be feeling very ashamed now." Park Myung-soo adds, "You've been through a lot. I won’t feel pain anymore," bringing laughter.
Jeong Ji-seon further reveals, "If I had colleagues, seniors, and a mentor during that time, I think I would have received help. It was so lonely," evoking emotion. Jeong Ji-seon's heartfelt confession about the challenges faced by female owner chefs will be revealed through the main broadcast of 'Boss's ears.'
Meanwhile, KBS 2TV's 'Boss's ears are like donkey's ears' airs every Sunday at 4:40 p.m.
