Actor Seo Kang-joon delivered a captivating one-man show from start to finish in 'Undercover High School.'
Seo Kang-joon played Jung Hae-seong, who alternates between a National Intelligence Service agent and a high school student, in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Undercover High School' (written by Lim Young-bin, directed by Choi Jung-in) that aired on the 22nd, and captivated viewers with his passionate performance that transcended genres in just two episodes.
On that day, Jung Hae-seong attempted to infiltrate Byeongmun High School's old building, a strong candidate for the hiding place, to recover the gold bullion of Emperor Gojong but was discovered by his homeroom teacher Oh Soo-ah (played by Jin Ki-joo), who was on duty. However, Jung Hae-seong did not give up and, together with his partner Lee Dong-min (played by Shin Joon-hyang), attempted to re-investigate. Byeongmun High School's chairman Seo Myeong-joo (played by Kim Shin-rok) was watching all of this on CCTV, heightening curiosity about future developments.
'Undercover High School' debuted with the highest viewership rating among all dramas aired on Fridays and Saturdays in the 2049 demographic (based on Nielsen Korea), and the second episode also took the top spot, early indicating that Seo Kang-joon would set new records for his representative works. As evaluations questioned, "Was Seo Kang-joon's acting really this good?" praise continued for his limitless acting spectrum that encompasses both action and comedy.
Seo Kang-joon's committed 'first-class' acting as a leading actor firmly anchored the core of the drama. It added coherence to the character Jung Hae-seong's narrative and significantly enhanced the immersion. Seo Kang-joon provided catharsis with scenes where he effortlessly subdued bullies, while also delivering laughs in moments of fear regarding school rumors. His delicate emotional acting in expressing disappointment toward bystanders of school violence received positive reviews.
