Director Bong Joon-ho's new film 'Mickey 17' is set to be released in about a week, but it has already surpassed a 50% reservation rate.
According to the Integrated Ticketing System for Movie Theaters on the 23rd at 5 p.m., 'Mickey 17' exceeded a real-time reservation rate of 50.3%, and the number of reserved viewers reached 124,371.
'Mickey 17' has 5 days until its official release, but with the rapidly rising reservation rate, it has claimed the top spot with overwhelming figures, surpassing second place 'Lee Chan-won Concert: Dear My Chance' and third place 'Captain America: Brave New World.' Consequently, there are significant expectations for the opening score on its first day.
Bong Joon-ho's comeback film 'Mickey 17' (screenplay directed by Bong Joon-ho, produced by Plan B Entertainment, distributed by Warner Brothers Korea) features a disposable (expendable) character sent on dangerous missions. Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), who is printed again upon death, faces the 17th death crisis, leading to unpredictable events when Mickey 18 (also played by Robert Pattinson) is printed, believing that Mickey has died. Based on the science fiction novel 'Mickey 7' by American author Edward Ashton, Bong Joon-ho has newly adapted it and personally written the screenplay and directed it. This film marks his first release in 6 years since winning the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and achieving 4 Academy Awards for 'Parasite', making it his third overseas project following 'Okja' and 'Snowpiercer.'
Additionally, 'Mickey 17' was invited to the special gala section of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival held in Germany, receiving significant attention. According to foreign media reports, there was a tremendous cheer and a standing ovation from the audience along with the release of the ending credits, and domestic reviews are also positive.
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' is set to be released in South Korea, the first in the world, on the 28th.
