The movie 'Substance' (directed by Coralie Farja, imported by Chanlan, distributed by NEW, co-produced by Firstman Studio, So Ji-seob, and 51K) has surpassed 400,000 to reach 500,000.

According to the Integrated Computer Network of the Korean Film Council on the 23rd, 'Substance' added 6,994 viewers on the 22nd across 257 screens, reaching a cumulative audience of 501,242.

'Substance' is a nonstop bloody thriller depicting a fierce confrontation between me and a better version of myself. It was released in December last year and has been receiving great love from audiences, running for more than two months in domestic theaters.

In particular, it is the first time in 11 years since the 2014 film 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' that an overseas independent artistic film with an adult rating has surpassed 400,000 viewers. 'Substance' continues to break box office records by reaching 500,000 after its landmark of 400,000.

Additionally, attention is being drawn to the fact that the top star So Ji-seob is the one who imported 'Substance' so it could be shown in South Korea. So Ji-seob has been investing in and importing independent films that are hard to screen easily in the country for over 10 years and is active as an investor in the film company Chanlan. His agency 51K has been importing foreign films in cooperation with Chanlan since 2012, and 51K's Kim Jung-hee and Chanlan's Lee Ji-hye are close friends and longtime partners who have introduced excellent foreign films to domestic audiences at the film market every year. So Ji-seob has introduced over 30 films, including 'Philomena,' 'Madame Proust's Secret Garden,' 'Midsommar,' and 'Substance,' in which he has appeared in the ending credits.

Meanwhile, 'Substance' has achieved a double honor by being nominated in major categories at the 97th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 3 (local time) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It has been nominated for a total of five categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Makeup. There are expectations of whether Demi Moore, who won her first Golden Globe for Best Actress during her 45-year acting career, will also take home the Academy trophy.
