Actor Sung In-kyu, formerly of the group A-Style, marked the 12th anniversary of his passing.
On Feb. 22, 2013, singer Sung In-kyu passed away, drawing sorrow. He was 24 years old.
Born in 1988, Sung In-kyu was a versatile entertainer who began his career as a child actor before debuting as a member of A-Style in 2008. His debut work was a sitcom. In particular, Sung In-kyu appeared in the 2000 SBS sitcom "You Can't Stop Them" as the character Old Man Sam.
Afterward, Sung In-kyu gained experience through grants in 2002 in the animation "Married Life" as Junho, the role of Young Wangnooni in SBS's "The Era of Outlaws," in the 2005 drama "Coming of Age 2," and in 2008 with Mnet's "Challenge."
Having made a name for himself as an actor, he debuted as a singer in 2008 through the group A-Style. A-Style released single albums such as "One Two Three Back (1.2.3.4. Back)" and "Dynamite." Later, A-Style, including Sung In-kyu, disbanded in 2009 and went their separate ways.
In 2011, Sung In-kyu revealed his battle with thymoma through his mini homepage, sharing the news late. He confessed that he had stage 2 thymoma, stating, "In early April 2011, I began experiencing severe chest pain. I felt the condition worsen and went to the hospital for a CT scan, where a mass was discovered in my chest, which had metastasized up to my neck."
He recalled the past when breathing was difficult due to the tumor that had metastasized to his neck, stating, "Since May, I have undergone chemotherapy six times. Surgery is too risky to perform," eliciting sorrow.
Even during his illness, he did not abandon his passion for his dreams. He devoted himself to treatment but ultimately succumbed to his illness on Feb. 22, 2013.
Tributes from colleagues continued. Park Jung-jin, a member of A-Style, mourned the loss with a tweet saying, "I hope you can now rest comfortably in the heavens," and Rainbow's Yoon Hye and Jae-kyung retweeted Park Jung-jin's post to express their condolences.
