Actors Park Hyung-sik and Seo Kang-joon have both launched their leading works, and a tight race is expected.
On the 21st, 'Treasure Island' and 'Undercover High School' both announced their premieres.
SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Treasure Island' (written by Lee Myung-hee/directed by Jin Chang-kyu/produced by Studio S, A2Z Entertainment, Purmire Production) aired its first episode. 'Treasure Island' generated anticipation even before its broadcast due to Park Hyung-sik's (as Seo Dong-joo) bold transformation, Heo Jun-ho's (as Yeom Jang-seon) villainous presence, a storyline that vividly portrays human desires, and powerful direction.
'Treasure Island' unveiled itself with a storm-like impact. The rapid development, as well as the intense kissing and bed scenes between Park Hyung-sik and Hong Hwa-yeon (as Yeo Eun-nam), triggered a surge of 'dopamine.'
Perhaps that's the reason. Responses of exhilaration and opinions on it being too provocative coexisted, raising curiosity for the next developments.
'Treasure Island' recorded a Nielsen Korea nationwide rating of 6.1% and a metropolitan area rating of 6%. The peak rating was 8.2%.
This placed it first in the same time slot and among Friday mini-series. However, considering that the previous work started with a rating of 5.2% in its first episode and ultimately rose to 12.0% in its final episode, it can also be seen that it benefited somewhat from its predecessor.
On the same day, the new Friday-Saturday drama on MBC, 'Undercover High School' (planned by Namgoong Seong-woo/written by Lim Young-bin/directed by Choi Jeong-in/produced by Neo Entertainment, Slingshot Studio) marked a successful return for Seo Kang-joon after his military discharge.
In the first episode, Seo Kang-joon (as Jeong Hae-sung), playing a National Intelligence Service agent, was depicted spectacularly as he undertook a new mission to infiltrate a high school. The day's ratings were reported at 5.6% nationwide and 5.8% in the metropolitan area, with a maximum of 6.4%. Notably, it recorded a 2.0% rating in the key demographic of 2049, ranking it first among Friday-Saturday dramas.
Given that MBC's previous work, 'Motel California,' was decisively defeated by 'My Perfect Secretary,' this is an achievement beyond expectations.
The broadcast began with a story involving Haeseong, who is performing a secret operation, along with four domestic teams. The encounter between Haeseong (played by Seo Kang-joon) and Oh Soo-a (played by Jin Ki-joo) elicited laughter. There were reactions like 'Seo Kang-joon's face is amusing,' leading to a buzz of 'it's entertaining.'
