Chef Edward Lee harshly criticized the taste of his food.
In the episode of tvN's 'Edward Lee's Country Cook' aired on the 21st, the Country team, now complete with Byun Yo-han, was depicted preparing food for the elderly in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province.
Earlier, Edward Lee presented '味(미)친추리 Grilled Octopus,' accompanied by CIAAT salted seafood and perilla leaves in a Chimichurri sauce, drawing admiration.
He then made a second dish of cod wrapped in cabbage. Edward Lee placed vegetables on the cabbage and topped it with prepared cod, then steamed the wraps and served them with a soybean paste sauce. Cynthia and Go Ah-sung, who tasted a dish named 'Cod Cabbage Pouch,' remarked, 'It feels like eating several things at once.'
The next dish was pumpkin soup served with buckwheat noodles, and when Edward Lee tasted it, he noted it was 'a little strange' and appeared flustered. Following that, Cynthia could not hold back her laughter after tasting it.
Go Ah-sung could not put down his spoon after tasting it. He revealed, 'Honestly, it was my style,' and added, 'I personally like plain dishes, and the bland charm combined with the buckwheat flavor was really delicious.' Cynthia also stated, 'The more you eat, the more delicious it gets. I think it would be tasty with kimchi.'
Edward Lee expressed, 'Ah-sung and Cynthia liked that dish, but I wasn't a fan. However, I will try it again. It's a dish that needs a bit more experimentation. It requires more trial and error. I believe there are no failures. The most important part of being a chef is to experiment with various ingredients and learn how they work together, continually providing different tastes and making changes as you attempt it again.'
That evening, Edward Lee, Byun Yo-han, Go Ah-sung, and Cynthia decided to prepare a meal for the local elderly. The menu Edward chose was chicken stew made with soybean paste and soy milk. He explained, 'It's not traditional Korean food, but I wanted to create a Korean flavor.'
They began preparations enthusiastically, but faced a crisis as the cauldron wouldn't boil, and the rice cooker was too small to cook enough rice, necessitating new dishes. Byun Yo-han expressed worry, saying, 'It feels like a major disaster is about to happen,' and Edward Lee raised his voice, saying, 'It's not boiling.' Ultimately, they delayed the meal time and Edward prepared potato pancakes instead. He confessed that there was pressure from the competition, but there was another layer of stress.
After overcoming many difficulties, they served the food to the elderly, who praised it, saying, 'It's really unique. I've never had this before. It's so delicious. It's rich and tasty. I never imagined this. Where can you eat something like this?' Edward Lee felt relieved and proud, brushing his chest.
