Singer Lee Seung-hwan, who has expressed support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, noted that he was "not denied entry by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)."
Lee Seung-hwan said on the 16th through his Instagram that he came to the United States for his nephew's wedding.
Lee Seung-hwan performed at a candlelight cultural festival for the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol held in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on December 13 last year, criticizing President Yoon and the People Power Party regarding the "12·3 martial law" situation.
In far-right online communities, there have been numerous posts reporting and certifying entertainers who supported the impeachment of President Yoon after the impeachment motion was passed, with Lee Seung-hwan included among them.
They are claiming that being labeled as pro-North Korea or anti-American can make the U.S. entry screening stricter or hinder the issuance of the Visa Waiver Program, ESTA.
Recently, with the postponement of the group Jaurim's concert in New York, some online communities posted speculations such as, "It seems I can't go to the U.S. because of the CIA report" and "The CIA effect has been proven effective."
However, Jaurim's management stated that this claim is "unrelated to the CIA."
The U.S. Embassy in South Korea previously stated that "the CIA does not make judgments on U.S. visa and immigration applications."
Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Tae-yul responded at a full meeting of the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee last December to the question, "Does attending an impeachment rally prevent ESTA issuance?" saying, "That can't be possible; isn't that a matter of those countries' sovereignty?"
