Actress Sunwoo Eunsook, 65, revealed her feelings about the court's detention of her ex-husband Yoo Youngjae, 61, who sexually assaulted her biological sister.
Legal representative of the law firm Jongjae, Attorney Noh Jong-eon said, "I respect the judiciary's reasonable verdict" and expressed hope that "this will serve as an opportunity for our society to rethink the issue of sexual violence within families."
He added, "The Sunwoo sisters suffered serious psychological damage due to countless insults, ridicule, defamation, and sexual denigration on the internet and YouTube until the verdict was announced. They exposed this fact and filed a complaint, prepared to lose everything, yet the victims were not protected and endured a barrage of hateful comments and ridicule, undergoing psychiatric treatment to cope with the situation."
Attorney Noh stated, "I would like to give those who are mocking and insulting, and spreading false information through comments or broadcasts on the internet and YouTube, a week to delete them. I would appreciate it if you do so. After a week, I plan to collect evidence of any secondary harm comments or broadcasts that I discover and take legal action." He expressed a sincere wish for the world to change, so that victims of sexual violence are not ridiculed or insulted and are protected from secondary harm, especially following this ruling.
Previously, Yoo Youngjae was tried for forcibly molesting Sunwoo Eunsook's biological sister, A, five times between March and October 2023. On this day, the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court's Criminal Division 1, headed by Director General Heo Yong-gu, sentenced Yoo Youngjae to two years and six months in prison for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (forced molestation due to familial relationships). Additionally, Yoo was detained in court due to concerns he might flee. He was ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and was also barred from employment in institutions related to children and the disabled for five years. Following the sentence, Yoo stated, "I will reflect on my actions."
