Director Park Chan-wook's new film "No Other Choice" has completed filming. The first stills featuring actors Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin have also been released.
Distributor CJ ENM noted on the 21st that "No Other Choice" finished filming after five months on the 15th.
"No Other Choice" tells the story of an office worker, Yoo Man-soo (played by Lee Byung-hun), who, after unexpectedly losing his job, prepares for his own war towards re-employment to protect his wife, Mi-ri (Son Ye-jin), and their two children, while fighting to keep the home he has worked hard to acquire. The film is based on the novel "The Ax" by American author Donald Westlake. Park Chan-wook has previously expressed great enthusiasm for adapting this story into a film.
"No Other Choice" marks a reunion between director Park Chan-wook and Lee Byung-hun after their collaborations on "Joint Security Area" and "Three, Monsters." It also features the first acting collaboration between Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin, along with a cast that includes Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and Yoo Yeon-seok.
The first stills released alongside the end of filming capture a happy moment between Man-soo and Mi-ri. Director Park Chan-wook began shooting on Aug. 17 last year and completed a total of 85 filming days by the 15th.
Park Chan-wook said, "I think I started writing the script for this film about 17 years ago and I am overwhelmed with emotion to finally complete the filming of a work I have always wanted to make."
He added, "I think it's a relief that everything ended safely as planned, and I will work hard on the post-production to create a film that everyone who participated in can feel proud of."
Lee Byung-hun said, "I think I will remember for a long time the time spent exchanging ideas with the director like long-time friends in a tic-tac manner. I believe the film will enrich through new ideas from many conversations, and I am eager to see it quickly, but I can't help but think, 'Has there ever been a project I anticipated as much as this one?'"
Son Ye-jin stated, "I don't know how time has passed so quickly. As a fan of director Park Chan-wook and senior Lee Byung-hun, I feel that a really wonderful work is about to be born as I watched the process. I can't wait to show it to the audience."
