Hong Sang-soo's 33rd feature film has been invited to the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place next month in Germany.
The executive committee of the Berlin International Film Festival announced on the 21st (local time) the screening films in the competition sector, including Hong's film "What Does the Nature Say to You?" The movie depicts events that unfold as a young woman introduces her boyfriend to her family. Actors Ha Sung-kuk, Kwon Hae-hyo, and Kim Min-hee star in the film.
Jacqueline Leong, a programmer at the Berlin International Film Festival, noted that Hong's new work "provides deep insights into the flow of human relationships, and there is no director quite like Hong Sang-soo to achieve this".
Starting with his debut work "The Day a Pig Fell into the Well," which was invited in the forum sector in 1997, Hong has had a total of 12 films screened at the Berlin International Film Festival by this year. He has received awards five times, beginning with "On the Beach at Night Alone" (Silver Bear for Best Actress) in 2017, up to "The Novelist's Film" (Jury Grand Prix) last year.
Earlier, the entertainment media Dispatch reported on the 17th that "Kim Min-hee naturally conceived Hong Sang-soo's child" and "is expected to give birth this spring". There is growing interest in whether the two will attend the Berlin International Film Festival together.
Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee, who became intertwined through the film "Right Now, Wrong Then," developed a romantic relationship, overcoming the 22-year age gap. The two have refrained from appearing in public since revealing their extramarital affair during the 2017 screening of "On the Beach at Night Alone".
At this year's Berlin International Film Festival, held from the 13th to the 23rd, Bong Joon-ho's new film "Mickey17" will debut in the special gala sector, while Min Kyu-dong's film "The Breakup" will make its premiere in the forum sector.
