Choi Min-hwan, formerly of FT Island, claimed that his ex-wife, Yul-hee, who is from Laboum, frequently leaving home and her sleeping habits were reasons for their divorce.
In an interview with Dispatch on the 13th, Choi Min-hwan noted that he had expressed his intention to divorce to his manager even in August 2021, before visiting nightlife establishments, claiming that his pattern of partying at night and sleeping during the day did not allow him to be devoted to parenting. After Yul-hee found out about Choi Min-hwan's visits to nightlife establishments, they faced another divorce crisis; however, they reconciled after he asked for forgiveness, only to confront another crisis about a year later in August 2023. He stated that Yul-hee's daytime napping and frequent departures led to renewed issues.
Choi Min-hwan claimed, "During the 5 years we lived together, we had over 20 instances of her leaving home due to disputes. Sometimes she would leave for just a day or two, and at other times for a week or ten days." He also claimed, "Yul-hee sleeps abnormally. She can sleep for 18 to 20 hours a day, and when I bring it up, she gets furious and leaves the house."
From February 2020 to September 2021, Choi Min-hwan served as a dedicated reserve and during that time, Yul-hee raised their three children. Regarding this, Choi Min-hwan explained, "During my military service, I had a caregiver from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After work, I looked after the children, and my mother helped with childcare and cooking. I never asked Yul-hee for dinner or for her to wash dishes."
Around August 2023, Yul-hee reportedly left home for about a week and returned home drunk seeking forgiveness, according to Choi Min-hwan. At the time, Choi Min-hwan claimed he and Yul-hee promised, "I will never leave home again," but she did not keep that promise and repeated going out at night, returning early the next morning every 2 to 3 days.
Ultimately, the couple agreed to divorce and completed their amicable divorce on December 8, 2023, agreeing not to exchange any monetary compensation regarding alimony and asset division at that time. Custody and parental rights were granted to Choi Min-hwan, but Yul-hee filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, Choi Min-hwan, regarding custody, alimony, and asset division in November of last year, leading to ongoing disputes.
