Members of the group NewJeans wore black ribbons on stage to express condolences for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport.
NewJeans members appeared on the TBS live broadcast of the "66th Shine! Japan Record Awards" in Japan on the 30th, wearing black ribbons and performing their Japan debut single "Supernatural."
It seems they wore the ribbons conveying condolences because canceling the overseas schedule was difficult.
The previous day, NewJeans members also posted a message "expressing condolences" on their official social media account.
The released photos show the members wearing black ribbons on the collars of their blouses.
Meanwhile, on the morning of the 29th, around 9:03 a.m., Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok attempted an emergency landing on the runway at Muan International Airport in Muan-myeon, Muan-gun, but crashed head-on into an outer wall and exploded.
The crash shattered the aircraft and engulfed it in flames, resulting in the deaths of 179 out of 181 passengers despite a 12-hour rescue operation. Only two crew members, located near the emergency exit at the rear, were rescued and are being treated.
The government declared a national mourning period from the same day until Jan. 4 of the next year. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the flight data recorder (black box) and cockpit voice recorder of the aircraft were retrieved and an investigation into the cause of the accident has begun.
