In connection with the Jeju Air disaster at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla, voices of condolence are pouring in from the entertainment industry.
Singer G-Dragon posted an image of a white flower on a black background on personal social media to comfort the victims and their families, while actress Ko So-young posted a picture of a chrysanthemum and mourned, saying, "Rest in peace."
Actress Kim Hye-soo also wrote, "I commemorate the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. I extend my deep condolences and sympathy."
Musical actress and singer Ock Joo-hyun left a message saying, "I deeply mourn the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster. Praying with all my heart."
The entertainment industry participated in the national mourning period by canceling scheduled concerts and large events such as year-end awards ceremonies.
Following the cancellation of the Entertainment Awards on the 29th, MBC also canceled the live broadcast of the Acting Awards scheduled for the 30th.
MBC stated, "To share our condolences with the people in deep sorrow due to this accident, we will cancel the live broadcast of the '2024 MBC Acting Awards' scheduled for 8:40 p.m. today and replace it with a pre-recorded broadcast."
KBS, holding the Acting Awards on the 31st, and SBS, hosting the Entertainment Awards, said they are "discussing whether to proceed with the live broadcast as scheduled."
Singer Taehee announced the cancellation of the year-end concert 'Thanks for This Year' scheduled for the 31st in Wonju, Gangwon Province, as part of joining the national mourning. Besides Taehee, singers Kang San-ae and Park Ji-hyun were also set to appear in the concert.
Singer Lee Seung-hwan will also cancel the concert scheduled for Jan. 4 next year in Cheonan. Lee posted on social media, "I offer my deep condolences to the bereaved families in immeasurable sorrow and pain while praying for the victims' peace" and stated that "the opinion of concert cancellation has been conveyed to the production company."
Various promotional activities and broadcast schedules have also been postponed.
Girl group IVE decided to postpone the release of promotional content for their third mini-album 'IVE EMPATHY,' scheduled for release on Feb. 3 next year. SEVENTEEN's unit group BSS (BooSeokSoon) also delayed the unveiling of official photos for their second single 'TELEPARTY.'
SEVENTEEN also announced that they will not post content related to member Joshua's birthday on this day.
Pledis Entertainment, SEVENTEEN's agency, conveyed, "We deeply express our condolences for the plane disaster and ask for your generous understanding."
Additionally, YouTube creator SEIB, well-known for the "Maratanghuru" challenge, postponed the release of the new song "Adults Don't Know," initially planned for the 1st of next month.
