Lee Geun, 40, who is accused of hitting YouTuber 'GuJeok' (real name Lee Joon-hee) after an argument post-trial, has been sentenced to a fine in the appeals trial as well.
The Seoul Central District Court's 4-1 Criminal Appeals Division (Presiding Judges Yang Ji-jung, Eom Cheol, and Lee Hun-jae) sentenced Lee to a fine of 5 million won on the 19th, the same as the first trial, for charges including assault.
The court noted, “The sentence from the original trial does not appear light or heavy,” adding, “Though the crime occurred near the court, requiring stern punishment, it was considered that the incident stemmed from personal emotions rather than defiance against public authority.”
After the verdict, the court also reprimanded Lee, saying, “Instead of solely blaming the opponent, consider whether you provided any cause with your actions.”
In March of last year, Lee was indicted on charges of punching GuJeok's face once during an argument as Lee was leaving after a trial at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
There is also an allegation of hitting GuJeok's cell phone, causing it to fall to the ground, and using abusive language in a public place after the assault.
It was investigated that at the time, GuJeok asked questions such as “Aren't you sorry to your creditors for being insolvent for six years?” as Lee completed the first trial on charges including unauthorized entry into Ukraine.
Lee was also found guilty of charges including unauthorized entry into Ukraine, which is at war, and was sentenced to one year and six months in prison with a three-year probation during the second trial on Jun. 2.
