It was belatedly revealed that singer Na Hoon-a, who declared retirement from the music industry, criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol's Dec. 3 martial law declaration.
According to Sports World on the 16th, Na Hoon-a expressed his feelings about the martial law situation at the '2024 Thank You - Last Concert' held at the EXCO in Daegu on the 7th.
He said, "I stayed up all night a few days ago. I was debating whether to perform or not," and noted, "They say gatherings are prohibited. I wondered what to do. After seeing martial law lifted in the early morning, I had a drink and went to sleep."
He continued, "What is the fundamental of politics? To protect the lives of the people and ensure they don't go hungry," emphasizing, "The National Assembly should stay up all night and ponder over issues troubling South Korea."
He then added, "Where is the National Assembly building? Where is Yongsan and where are the homes of ruling and opposition party leaders? Gathering energy at the end of this liability," and passionately sang the chorus of 'Empty' with the audience.
'Empty' is a song written and composed by Na Hoon-a, known for its impressive lyrics expressing life's fleeting emptiness.
Na Hoon-a began his retirement concert in Daejeon on 12th. The tour will conclude in Seoul after passing through Gangneung, Andong, Jinju, Gwangju, Daegu, and Busan.
The Seoul concert will be held from Jan. 10 to 12 at the Olympic Park KSPO Dome in Seoul.
In a letter released through his agency on Oct. 4, Na Hoon-a noted, "Even though it's hard to guess how it feels to experience the final stage for the first time, my heart is filled with the determination to perform more enthusiastically as always."
He continued, "I intend to sing a farewell song with a big smile. Everyone! Thank you."
Debuting in 1967, Na Hoon-a gained love with hits such as 'Musiro', 'Weeds', 'Red Persimmon', and 'Broken Clock', and after suddenly declaring retirement from the music industry in February, is meeting fans through his final national tour.
