Ahead of Christmas, Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart. Carey's 'Christmas annuity song,' which climbs the charts every year-end, has proved to be a reliable hit.
On Dec. 9 (local time), Billboard announced that Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' topped the Hot 100, achieving a total of 15 weeks at No. 1. The song, released in Nov. 1994, enjoys popularity every year-end as the public repeatedly seeks it out during the Christmas season.
This upward chart movement became notable from the late 2010s, attributed to the growth of the music streaming industry. 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' first entered the Hot 100 top 10 in December 2017. The following year, it broke into the top 5, and since 2019, it has reached No. 1 during each Christmas season.
In 2021, Carey noted in an interview, "I had no idea of the global impact this song would have when I wrote it. I am very grateful that so many people enjoy this song with me every year."
Carey holds the record for the most No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 among solo artists. Notably, this song has reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 1990s, as well as in the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.
In addition to Carey's song, Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,' Wham's 'Last Christmas,' and Burl Ives' 'A Holly Jolly Christmas' have all secured spots in the top 10.
