Hoshi (birth name Kwon Sun-young) of the group SEVENTEEN, who is serving in the military, donated 100 million won that was used to set up new classrooms for children in Zambia, Africa.
The Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit) said on the 15th that the construction of classrooms at a public school in Zambia, funded by Hoshi's donation, has been completed. The project was carried out with the 100 million won that Hoshi donated through the northern Gyeonggi branch of the Community Chest of Korea last year.
The supported school is a local public school with about 250 children from kindergarten through seventh grade. Previously, there were only two classrooms, forcing students of multiple grades to study in a single space, creating poor learning conditions.
With Hoshi's donation, the school newly built five classrooms in two buildings and restrooms. Renovations were also carried out on the aging school facilities. A child protection facility in Kitwe, a city in northern Zambia, received support for repairs to old facilities and electrical work.
Hoshi said, "I joined this support with the hope that children can learn in a better environment and grow up right," and added, "I am very pleased thinking of the children who will freely nurture their dreams in the newly built classrooms, and I want to continue paying attention to places at home and abroad that need help."
Hoshi joined the Honor Society, a high-value individual donor group of the Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit), in 2021 and has continued to donate steadily. Last year, Hoshi gave 100 million won to support the construction of the National Orphanage School in Laos, and in May, donated to the Army Patriotism and Comrades-in-Arms Love Fund. Hoshi has also continued sharing activities such as donations for juniors at the alma mater and in the hometown region, library book support, and assistance for vulnerable groups.
Hoshi enlisted for active duty in the Army in September last year and is serving. At 6 p.m. the same day, Hoshi will release the new song "Snapback" (SNAPBACK). "Snapback" is a song that conveys an irresistible attraction based on an old-school-style guitar sound and a lively rhythm, and Hoshi also took part in writing and composing.
