BTS is generating a massive global economic impact with "BTSnomics," following Taylor Swift's "Taylornomics," BigHit Music said on the 9th.
BTS began its world tour "Arirang (ARIRANG)" at Goyang Stadium on Apr. 9 and is underway to stage a total of 85 shows across 34 cities worldwide through the first half of 2027.
Industry watchers say BTS' activities go beyond simple music consumption to create economic ripple effects across concerts, tourism, lodging, and other sectors. Reuters, the U.K. news agency, projected that BTS' world tour total revenue will reach about $1.8 billion (about 2.6 trillion won). Reuters said it is "a figure comparable to Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour, which set an all-time revenue record, and Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour."
BigHit Music estimated that the three shows under way in Mexico since the 7th (local time) alone will generate an economic impact of about $107.5 million (about 160 billion won).
Kim Yu-hyeok, an analyst at IBK Securities, said, "We estimate BTS' world tour aggregate results at 2.88 trillion won in revenue, 530.6 billion won in operating profit, and an operating margin of 18.4%," adding, "There is also an assessment that BTS' world tour total revenue could be higher than Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. The BTS fandom ARMY shows similarities to Swift's fandom (Swifties) in loyalty and age distribution, while having a stronger propensity for expenditure on ancillary products such as merchandise (MD) and content."
