Group NewJeans' "How Sweet," released in 2024, has become embroiled in a copyright infringement dispute in the United States.
According to Billboard in the United States on the 8th (local time), four songwriters, including Audrey Amacost, claimed that NewJeans' How Sweet plagiarized their demo track "One of a Kind." They then filed a lawsuit seeking a royalty split from NewJeans and the agency.
They said they had previously proposed a topline (main melody) to NewJeans, but it was not accepted, and that the verse 1 melody and structure of How Sweet released afterward are similar to "One of a Kind."
In response, ADOR, NewJeans' agency, explained that after confirming through BANA, the producer of the track, it is not plagiarism. The company said it plans to take legal action against Audrey Macost and others who made the plagiarism claim.
