Statistics show that foreign tourists who came to Korea to see BTS's concerts stayed longer and spent more than other general tourists.
On the 29th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute (KCTI), and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said, "A field survey of BTS concert attendees found that foreigners who visited to see the BTS Gwanghwamun comeback concert stayed about 8.7 days and spent 3.53 million won," and "that is 2.6 days longer than the average stay of general visitors to Korea at 6.1 days, and the expenditure (2.45 million won) was 1.08 million won higher."
Foreigners who came to see the BTS world tour concert held at Goyang Sports Complex from the 9th to the 12th also stayed an average of 7.4 days and spent 2.91 million won, exceeding the average. They were found to have visited, in connection with the concert, Seoul's Yongsan and Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, where the "BTS THE CITY Seoul program" took place before and after the show.
On days with a BTS concert, the number of foreign visitors and card spending in areas near the venue also surged. According to telecom and card data for Daehwa-dong in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, where Goyang Sports Complex is located, the number of foreign visitors on the concert days (three days total) was 35 times higher than the same period last year, and spending jumped 38 times.
Kang Jeong-won, head of tourism policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), said, "Through this survey, we were able to confirm the regional visitation effect of large-scale K-culture performances," and added, "We will actively support turning visits by foreigners seeking to experience K-culture such as music, film, drama, and games into stay-type tourism."
