Son Heung-min said he will forgo shooting new ads and put all his focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America, with two months to go before the tournament.
Sports drink brand Gatorade Korea said on the 24th via social media (SNS), "The history of sports has been built on sweat. So Gatorade has forgone shooting a new ad with Son Heung-min for a new chapter in soccer history," adding, "Instead, we will reuse last year's ad so Son Heung-min can sweat it out on the training ground, not on a set."
Son Heung-min said, "I already feel in my body and mind how important this summer will be for me as a player. I am preparing as best I can not only physically but also mentally," and added, "Like Gatorade's message, whether we stumble before a challenge or clear it in the end depends on the will within us. Trusting the time, effort, and sweat I have invested to achieve my dream, I will do my best to bring joy and happy memories to the people."
After posting 12 goals and 4 assists in 13 matches last season in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, Son Heung-min has 2 goals and 12 assists in 14 matches this season. Powered by Son Heung-min's performances, LAFC reached the quarterfinals of the Audi MLS Cup (playoffs, PO) last season, and this season has advanced to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals, chasing its first-ever title.
He is also starring for the Korea national team. Although he was quiet in last month's two-match international window (Côte d'Ivoire and Austria), he has scored 6 goals since Hong Myung-bo took over as manager in Jul. 2024, the most in that span.
