Hollywood actor Meryl Streep, visiting Korea, said, "My six grandchildren talk a lot about K-pop and K-culture. They sing 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' every day."
Streep said this at a press conference for the film "The Devil Wears Prada 2" held the morning of the 8th at the Four Seasons Hotel Gwanghwamun in Jongno District, Seoul. Anne Hathaway, who also took part in The Devil Wears Prada 2, attended the press conference.
Streep, who said this was her first visit to Korea, greeted the audience with "Annyeonghaseyo" and said she is very interested in Korean culture. Streep said, "I really like Korean barbecue, so I often go to a barbecue place near my son's hockey rink in Los Angeles (LA)."
Anne Hathaway also said, "Korea's culture is being led by the younger generation," adding, "Korea's content in music, fashion and beauty is very rich."
She continued, "Going to Starfield Library has been on my long-standing bucket list, but I'm disappointed there isn't enough time," and added, "I want to experience as much as possible within the time given."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a new release coming 20 years after its predecessor, which opened in 2006. It deals with the stories that unfold as Miranda, the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway, and Andy, a features editor, work together. Streep plays Miranda, and Hathaway plays Andy.
Streep said, "It's not easy for a woman in her 70s to be cast in a boss role, so I'm grateful to be able to show a character with a strong presence," adding, "I hope the opinions of women over 50 are reflected more in culture."
Hathaway also said, "Working with the world's greatest actor when I was a 22-year-old newcomer was the biggest gift of my life that made me who I am today," adding, "Andy has grown into an independent person who pays her own bills."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens on the 29th.
