Singer Jeong Dong-won's fandom marked Jeong Dong-won's Marine Corps enlistment class and 20th birthday with a meaningful act of giving.
Agency Show Play Entertainment said on the 19th that Jeong Dong-won's official fan cafe "Ujuchongdongwon" donated 13.27 million won each to ChildFund Korea and the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
ChildFund Korea's Gyeonggi 1 Regional Headquarters said, "We received 13.27 million won from 'Ujuchongdongwon' as a fund to support children in vulnerable groups in celebration of Jeong Dong-won's 20th birthday." The donation was raised through fans' participation in the "sixfold smart sponsorship life" campaign that Jeong Dong-won carried out with ChildFund Korea in January.
Yeo In-mi, head of ChildFund Korea's Gyeonggi 1 Regional Headquarters, said the donations "will be used to support the healthy growth and dreams of children in need."
The Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation also noted, "As with last year, Ujuchongdongwon donated 13.27 million won this year as well." The donation will be used to help cover medical expenses for pediatric patients with rare and intractable diseases such as pediatric cancer and leukemia.
A fan cafe representative said, "To continue the positive influence on the occasion of singer Jeong Dong-won's 20th birthday, after Jeong consistently practiced good deeds by donating to the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Ujuchongdongwon decided to join as well."
In particular, the donation amount of 13.27 million won added meaning by being set to symbolize "Marine Corps Class 1327," which is Jeong Dong-won's enlistment class in the recently joined Marine Corps. In the past, Jeong also practiced steady giving, such as donating the revenue from his first album to help children undergoing treatment.
Jeong Dong-won entered the Marine Corps Education and Training Center on the 23rd of last month. After completing basic military training, Jeong is scheduled to continue military service for 18 months.
