The film The King's Warden drew 2.47 million moviegoers over the March 1 Independence Movement Day holiday, and it is expected to surpass a cumulative audience of 10 million this week.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets on the 3rd, a total of 2,479,000 people watched The King's Warden over the four days from on the 27th to on the 2nd, when the weekend and the substitute holiday for March 1 followed one after another.
Earlier, on the 27th and 28th, about 278,000 and about 655,000 people, respectively, watched the film, and on the 1st of this month, the audience count was the highest since the film opened at about 817,000.
On the 2nd, the last day of the holiday, about 728,000 people saw The King's Warden, bringing the cumulative audience to about 9,213,000. Throughout the holiday, The King's Warden recorded a box-office revenue share of 76.9% to 83.4%. At the current pace, the cumulative audience of 10 million is likely to be surpassed this week.
In second place at the box office was director Ryu Seung-wan's Humint. About 166,000 people watched it during the holiday, keeping it in second place after The King's Warden. Humint, which opened on the 11th of last month, has a cumulative audience of about 1,863,000.
In third place was the Japanese film 5 Centimeters per Second, which opened on the 25th of last month. As a live-action adaptation of the animation of the same name, a total of about 39,000 people watched it during the holiday. The Dining Band, which opened on Dec. 31 last year, drew about 35,000 viewers over the holiday to rank fourth at the domestic box office.
Opening side by side on the 4th, Bride! starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale and Mad Dance Office starring Yeom Hye-ran ranked second and third in presales with 7.1% and 5%, respectively.
