The movie 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train' has surpassed 4 million viewers in cumulative attendance just 18 days after its release, setting a new box office record.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network on the 8th, the cumulative number of viewers as of 4:15 p.m. that day was reported as 400,080. This surpasses the 3,931,252 viewers recorded for 'Your Name' (2016), placing it third in the domestic box office rankings for Japanese animations.
Following its earlier achievement of securing the third overall box office position for 2025, it has also broken into the ranking of Japanese animation box office hits, demonstrating its phenomenon-level popularity. It has maintained the top position in the box office for 17 consecutive days since its release, achieving both the year's best opening score and the highest opening score ever for a Japanese animated film. It continues its record-breaking run, surpassing 1 million viewers on the second day and 3 million viewers on the 10th day.
The original work is a manga of the same name published in 2016 by Koyoharu Gotouge, which was later adapted into a TV anime in 2019, gaining popularity. The first feature film, 'Mugen Train,' released in 2020, attracted 2.22 million viewers domestically and became the top-grossing film in Japan.
'Mugen Train' is the second feature film in the series, depicting the final boss Muzan's confrontation with the protagonist Tanjiro. It is planned to be a trilogy, with this work being the first installment. In Japan, after its release on July 18, it surpassed 10 million viewers in just 17 days, and by the 24th of the previous month, it had exceeded 20 million viewers.
