The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on 4th that it will hold the 'Event commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation through tourism' in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and Hana Bank.
This event introduces 13 tourist sites that embody the significance of the independence movement from among the '100 selected attractions of Korea' to commemorate the liberation through tourism.
First, during 'Liberation Week' (August 11th to 17th), an event visiting the liberation-related tourist sites from the '100 selected attractions of Korea' will be held. Visitors to the 13 liberation-related tourist sites will receive a liberation commemorative magnet on a first-come, first-served basis. The liberation commemorative magnet features the 'Jin Gwan Sa Taegeukgi' drawn over the Japanese flag to express independence will and patriotism.
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, there are plans to place commemorative magnets on-site, and visitors will receive one commemorative magnet for each stamp they certify.
An event called 'My own liberation travel plan' will also be held. Participants can share their travel plans regarding liberation-related tourist sites from the '100 selected attractions of Korea' on the Korea comprehensive website, and after visiting and certifying their trip, they will enter a lottery to win a keychain of 'Hojongi' (Korean tourism character) wrapped in a Taegeukgi.
There will also be liberation commemorative events in collaboration with Hana Bank. From the 8th to the 7th of next month, visitors will receive Hana Bank additional charge coupons (+2.0%p) for all '100 selected attractions of Korea,' including 13 liberation-related tourist sites. There are plans to provide various prizes such as regional tourism facility vouchers, dining gift certificates (Outback mobile gift certificates), gas vouchers, and convenience store vouchers through some lottery.
A lottery event will also be held to double the winning probability of prizes for visitors who have certified their visit to at least one of the 13 liberation-related tourist sites.
Kim Jeong-hoon, the director of the Tourism Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "The purpose of this event is to break the existing framework that honors events must be conducted solemnly and to remember liberation in a new way through tourism," adding, "I hope many citizens will visit the liberation sites directly, reflect on the sacrifices of the patriots, and enjoy local tourism."
