The Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (Kedehun), which is causing a global sensation, has significantly expanded its official merchandise, creating a buzz among fans.
As of the 31st, the official Netflix merchandise sales site has 59 types of Kedehun-related products available for purchase.
"Kedehun," featuring K-Pop groups and exorcism themes, has recently topped the list of most-watched original animated films on Netflix. It has recorded a cumulative viewing time of 220.8 million hours, with the number of views calculated as 132.4 million, based on the total viewing hours divided by the runtime. Even after 6 weeks since its release, it remains popular, ranking 2nd in overall film viewership. It holds the top spot in 27 countries and is in the top 10 in 93 countries.
Despite its global popularity, the limited number of official products has led to responses expressing that it's "regrettable." In response, Netflix is maintaining fan interest by showcasing a variety of merchandise, including clothing, cellphone cases, glass cups, eco-bags, and stickers.
Particularly among fans, clothing products that recreate the looks of characters from the movie are drawing attention. A T-shirt printed with the abs of the fictional boy group Lion Boys member Abby and merchandise designed after the pajamas worn by Huntress member Mira are gaining popularity.
However, the somewhat high prices have come under criticism. The abs-printed T-shirt is priced at 63,000 won. The silver earrings are the most expensive item among the merchandise at 121,000 won. Posters are being sold for 47,000 won, and stickers are priced at 79,000 won.
Meanwhile, given that it is a K-Pop-themed film, the related soundtrack is also popular. The "Kedehun" original soundtrack (OST) has entered the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making a significant impact for three consecutive weeks. According to the latest chart released on the 29th, popular girl group Huntress's song "Golden" has taken 2nd place. Originally debuting at 81st on the singles chart earlier this month, "Golden" has quickly soared to 2nd place, just one step away from the top. Additionally, a total of 8 songs from the OST have simultaneously entered the Hot 100.
