The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 30th that it will launch a new project called 'support for innovation in public design' in collaboration with the Korea Craft and Design Promotion Agency.
The support for innovation in public design project has been established to enhance the capacity to respond to social changes and improve public issues through public design. The ministry has revamped existing public design projects to establish an integrated support system that covers diagnosis, planning, and execution.
The ministry and KCDF will initially expand public design innovation consulting to include local governments in addition to existing central administrative agencies and public institutions. The support details have also been refined to meet demand. Applicants can choose the required consulting stages based on the nature of their needs, including investigation and analysis, planning, design, production and installation strategies, and operation and management strategies. The consulting areas will be classified into 'designated' and 'free' areas, and cases such as ▲ improving traffic guidance systems and nearby public spaces ▲ enhancing operational systems of industrial complexes and surrounding environments ▲ public design needs to support digitally vulnerable populations may receive additional points during the evaluation. Support will range from 50 million won to a maximum of 200 million won per project.
A pilot project will also be newly initiated to support the pilot development and validation of novel public design ideas so that they can be effectively implemented and disseminated. Ideas and execution plans for improving public facilities, public visual imagery, public products, and public services will be solicited from public design companies, related corporations, associations, and organizations. Excellent projects that demonstrate effectiveness after development and validation will be selected as nationwide dissemination projects for additional support. Funding will range from 50 million won to a maximum of 400 million won per project.
Applications for the public design projects can be made through the comprehensive public design information system. The ministry plans to accept consulting demand surveys and project applications from August 25 to September 5.
