The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Film Council will distribute a total of 4.5 million movie ticket discount coupons, costing 6,000 won each, starting from 10 a.m. on the 25th.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 23rd, the coupons can be issued through the websites and applications of multiplex cinemas such as CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox. They can also be obtained on-site on a first-come, first-served basis at independent and art film theaters, small cinemas, and silver cinemas.
The issued discount coupons can be used until September 2, without distinction between weekdays and weekends. However, usage is limited to two coupons per person at each cinema.
Discounts can be combined with the 'cultural day' discount, discounts for people with disabilities, senior discounts, youth discounts, early bird discounts, and more. For instance, applying this discount to the 'cultural day' discount, where movies can be watched for 7,000 won on the last Wednesday of each month, allows a movie ticket to be purchased for just 1,000 won.
For affiliated card billing discounts, it is possible to stack them if the minimum payment conditions of each card company are met; however, telecommunications company membership discounts cannot be used simultaneously.
A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism noted, 'We hope that by supporting movie ticket discounts, people can enjoy movies during the upcoming summer vacation and holiday period, and that this will help revitalize cinemas.'
