The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is publicly recruiting organizations that will establish or operate the workplace sports department, providing a total of 16.3 billion won in support. It will also support minority sports and recovering organizations' operations.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism noted that it would publicly invite organizations to support the establishment and operation of the workplace sports department until the 13th of next month, providing a total of 16.3 billion won.
The recruitment is divided into the public sector (metropolitan and basic local governments, local sports councils, public institutions, local public enterprises, etc.) and the private sector (general corporations, etc.). Each is further categorized into establishment support and operational support.
Organizations eligible for establishment support are those that established or will complete establishing a workplace sports department or college team between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. Selected organizations can receive up to 300 million won for individual sports and up to 500 million won for team sports, distributed equally over three years. The support budget can be used for purchasing equipment and supplies needed for team training, participating in domestic and international competitions, and conducting training camps.
Organizations eligible for operational support are those currently operating the workplace sports department, excluding sports like soccer, baseball, volleyball, and golf, which do not issue sports promotion voting rights. The public sector budget will be supported through a combination of equal distribution (30%) and differential distribution (70%) methods. Equal distribution means providing the same budget to the 16 metropolitan and provincial governments, excluding Sejong Special Self-Governing City, while differential distribution is based on national sports competition performance (10%), international competition medal achievements (10%), and characteristics of the sport (50%).
This year, support for the operation of 'minority sports' and 'recovering organizations' will also be newly established. A total of 300 million won will be provided to two teams in minority sports that require a national strategy for participation in the Olympics and Asian Games, among sports where the number of workplace sports departments is two or fewer as of 2024, such as luge, surfing, and snowboarding. Operational support for recovering organizations targets those that have already been established but are struggling due to a lack of players or coaches, providing a total of 200 million won to two teams.
Organizations operating the workplace sports department that participate in the recruitment must submit related documents to their jurisdictional metropolitan local governments by the 22nd. Subsequently, the metropolitan local governments will submit establishment support applications by May 9 and operational support applications by May 13 to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Detailed recruitment guidelines can be found on the 'Notice' bulletin board of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's website.
