The government will develop a multipurpose cultural space in Seogye-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, by 2030.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced on the afternoon of the 13th that it will hold a discussion titled "Art Policy Talks at 3 p.m." at the Seoul Square Annex Modu Art Space to discuss the creation and operation plan for a performing arts belt in downtown Seoul.
The purpose is to discuss ways to revitalize the performing arts belt through connections between major national performance facilities, including the Seogye-dong multipurpose cultural space, the National Theater, the National Jeongdong Theater, and the Myeongdong Theater.
The Ministry plans to create the "Seogye-dong multipurpose cultural space" near Seoul Station, consisting of performance venues, exhibition halls, and a performing arts library, by 2030.
In addition, it aims to establish the "Namsan Performing Arts Belt" in connection with the National Theater by 2026, and the National Jeongdong Theater is expected to expand its facilities, including performance venues, by 2029.
The Myeongdong Theater will diversify its performance programs through improvements to the outdoor plaza.
Shin Eun-hyang, Director of Arts Policy at the Ministry, noted, "We will ensure that the performing arts belt serves as a foundation for expanding artistic creation and production for artists, enhancing public cultural enjoyment, and growing the performing arts industry."
