Last September, Gimpo City, designated as 'Book City of South Korea', will officially start activities with a declaration ceremony.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism noted that the '2025 Declaration Ceremony of Book City of South Korea', announcing the venue of the country's largest reading festival, 'Korea Reading Expo', will be held on the 13th at the Peace Education Center in the Aegibong Peace Ecological Park in Gimpo.
The ceremony will feature various programs, including the transfer of a symbolic baton, the appointment of singer Yang Hee-eun as an ambassador, and a congratulatory performance by the Gimpo City Youth Choir.
Starting with the event on this day, Gimpo City will run year-round reading culture events under the theme 'Refresh with Books' and hold the main reading expo from September 19 to 21.
Year-round programs will include 'Dinner with Books' for families to enjoy together and 'Searo Guest Lectures' held throughout Gimpo City, inviting notable figures.
During the main event, organizations and institutions related to reading, publishing, bookstores, and libraries will cooperate to intensively spread reading culture in the area around Han River Central Park in Gimpo.
The Ministry of Culture has been supporting the selection of one local government each year through open bidding since 2014, helping to host a nationwide 'Korea Reading Expo' in the designated region during the month of September, which is the month of reading.
Gimpo City has operated various reading culture events based on its infrastructure, including seven public libraries, and has received high praise for contributing to the spread of reading culture by holding a library book festival every year since 2018.
