In a significant year-end reshuffle on Dec. 7, SK Group announced the return of former SK hynix CEO Lee Seok-hee to the conglomerate. Lee, a renowned semiconductor expert, will take charge of SK on, a division focusing on the burgeoning battery business. This marks his comeback approximately 21 months after resigning as the head of SK hynix in March of the previous year.
Lee, 58, began his distinguished career in the semiconductor industry in 1990 as a researcher at Hyundai Electronics, the predecessor of SK hynix. He subsequently spent around a decade at Intel, earning the Intel Technology Award three times. Lee also served as a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
An industry insider highlighted the strategic importance of Lee's return, saying, "To stabilize SK innovation's business and yields, which continue to be in the red, the company is bringing in Lee, a semiconductor and manufacturing technology expert, as a relief pitcher."
